My first month of freedom!

4 William My last day at work.  A bit sad as I've been there for 22 years and 9 months, but very happy to be starting a new life of leisure and pleasure.  Had a traditional pub leaving do, where my friends and colleagues bestowed gifts on me;  a gardening file and planning diary, a beautiful wooden duck named William and £75 of garden vouchers.  I was overwhelmed by their generosity and good wishes.
6 Xmas present & card making is in full swing.  Most of my female friends are getting a scarf or hat/scarf set.  Snugly top already made for step-daughter 1.  Yet to make snugly shrug for step-daughter 2.
7 Borders looking a bit of a mess in the flower garden.  Cleared around pond and collected lily seeds to try propagation next Spring.  Cleared day lily debris from under the bird table and put down wood chip mulch.
9 Cleared left hand border.  Not sure it looks better - think I preferred the natural decaying look.....
17 Leaf & Compost binsBuilding of new compost bins and leaf bin completed by our local handy man.  Couldn't do without him for the heavy work!
19 Searching in the tack room for something today.  There's a five drawer chest of drawers and I started at the top, opening each drawer in turn, making quite a noise rummaging around.  Imagine my surprise when I opened the bottom drawer and two very cute & tiny mice sat looking up at me as if to say "hi, who are you?".
Sadly, they've got to go as they make quite a mess and, left unchecked, the whole stable area will be overrun.
Crow has also reported a rat siting, so rat poison applied too.
21 Chilli hanging to dryCleared the greenhouse and harvested the last 4 green bell peppers and two red chilli plants which I have decided to hang up to dry.

Swiss chard is still flourishing so I've protected some of the plants with umbrella cloches to extend their life as long as possible.

12-14 A trip to Newcastle with Crow and his two daughters.  We took in Beamish, Bill Quay (featured in Crow's latest novel), a meal with my mum, the Sage Music Centre, the Millennium bridge, Newcastle Quay Sunday market, the Baltic art gallery, South Shields sea front, the Leas and Marsden Grotto (also featured in Crow's latest novel), coffee with my mum and Durham.
21 Having not played my piano for over two years, I (at last) plucked up the courage to begin practising again.
22 Researched heating oil prices today to order our tank refill.
Crow gave me a Kodak EasyShare digital camera for my website photography.
23 Our first wedding anniversary.  We took a trip into London for a Chinese meal and a visit to the theatre to see Les Miserables.  Fabulous!
26 Put my outdoor pelargonium in the greenhouse to protect it from frost and made nine new plants from cuttings.
Bubble wrapped the outdoor taps for extra protection.
27 Paid a visit to the Raptor Foundation in Cambridgeshire where we sponsor an owl called Cybil.  Watched a fascinating flying display of the birds and was allowed to participate in the owl flying.
Followed by lunch with friends, a really enjoyable day.
30 Tat laid her last egg of the season today - time for a well deserved rest until February.  No-one has told Titfer though and she continues to produce.
