Cloverleaf Old-Timers


Andy Gibson - one of our Stewards on this year's Cloverleaf - was 5th with Jack Henley on the 1973 Cloverleaf in an Escort Twin Cam. They did a number of rallies in East Anglia and their best result was winning the Premier in 1972.

Geoff Lobb won the Cloverleaf in 1976 and 1977 in a Kadett with Dave Kirkham navigating. Geoff will be appearing on the 2007 Cloverleaf too albeit as part of the sweep crew for the event. Geoff still rallies occasionally and appeared on the Lombard Rally 2006 with "Crow".

With Geoff will be Rod Cattini, who also competed on the Cloverleaf 30 years ago but non-finished when he ran out of brakes. "Crow" used to rally with him too, the only surviving picture being from their appearance on the Red Dragon Rally in 1971.

Another partner for "Crow" was Graham Love who was Entries Secretary on the 1975 Cloverleaf; in 1977 and 1978 a Steward and will be out marshalling this year. He's pictured with "Crow" somewhere, sometime - possibly 1976.

John Harmer won the Cloverleaf in 1972 with Roger Powell in a Cooper S and he will be marshalling with his wife Sarah (nee Cohen) on the 2007 Cloverleaf. John is pictured here in with "Crow" on the 1971 Servais Rallye.

Don Grünbaum was Chief Marshal on the Cloverleaf in 1972. This year he will marshalling at the Red Lodge Karting circuit. Here he is pictured in his Ford Prefect on the Monte Minor Rally in 1970.

Robin Hernaman (MSA Gravel Champion co-driver for 2006) was Chief Marshal on the '77 and '78 Cloverleaf. This year he is Area Commander (West) and will be in overall charge of the tests at Bassingbourn Airfield. In 1979 was driving a Ford Escort Mexico.

The Cloverleaf banner that you'll see at signing-on was crafted by Sue Laver in South Africa. Her ex-husband Ron Laver, also in South Africa, was Public Relations Officer on the '73 Cloverleaf.

George Hendry is Area Commander (East) on this year's Cloverleaf and will looking after the tests at Red Lodge Kart Circuit. In 1973 George was Cloverleaf Chief Marshal and Assistant Chief Marshal in 1975.

Rob Roebuck is Chief Timekeeper this year. In 1978 he was a Steward.


Paul Carlier will be computing results and has been in charge of Public Relations this year - a job he also did on the 1977 and 1978 events.


You'll see Pete Rymill helping out at the Red Lodge Karting tests. In 1972 he was Entries Secretary and in charge of Publicity in 1975.


Rob Russell - Trainee Clerk of the Course - will be shadowing "Crow" on the Cloverleaf. His late father, Pete Russell was Clerk of the Course in 1965.


Frank Porter will be marshalling somewhere on the day. In 1975 he was Steward.
