Don't Worry about the Singularities!

Singularities? That's the general name that can be applied to the driver-only (INSularity - Is Navigator Superfluous?) and navigator only (Pegularity - PEdestrian reGULARITY) regularities on the Cloverleaf Rallies.

These have been included as an experiment to provide unique elements of competition on the Cloverleaf. Like the rest of the event the route will be defined by a clearly marked map. No code boards or secret checks to trip you up, although you may be observed to ensure you have followed the correct route.

The driver and navigator (outside the car) will start their respective regularities from the same control and at the same time. They follow different routes which terminate at a single common timing point. The driver's route will be less than 2 miles and the average speeds will be less than 20mph. The navigator's route will be less than 0.30 miles and the average speeds will be 2.7 mph or less.

Normal penalties apply, i.e. 1 second/per second early or late ... but the penalty applied will be the lesser of a) the driver-only penalty, b) the navigator-only penalty or c) 30 seconds. Why? We don't want you to be burdened with more than 30 seconds on this novel part of the day, but with the short distances involved your penalty should be a lot less.

The driver-only regularity is not new and has been used at night in Welsh forests on LE JOG. The Cloverleaf version will be in daylight around a technology park.

The Pegularity® idea isn't new either. An invention by the Cloverleaf Clerk of the Course, Pegularities as social events have been running since 2005. This year's Pegularity "World Championships" take place at Ray Crowther's home on July 15 and July 29.
A few places have been reserved for Cloverleaf entrants. You won't gain any advantage for the Cloverleaf, but you could have a fun day and help us to add to our Multiple Sclerosis Society fund raising.
