Our ninth consecutive year of activities around Longfield.
This year sex, er ... I mean six, events to test you.
PROVISIONAL SCHEDULE
-
10:45 to 11:00
Arrival. Just time for a cuppa and calorific cake. All day refreshments provided.
Team nomination for the rest of the day: Will you be competing solo?
As husband and wife? Father/son(s). Mother/daughter(s). Family
group?
-
11:15 to 12:30
1. Treasure Search Trial:
A contest to test your searching capabilities.
Search Longfield to find up to 30 small tubes (there
will be a sample at the start). Inside there will be a four-digit
number which you must record to prove you have found it. One point
for each one found; ten points deducted if the number is wrong (so
that you don't guess!). Each team will be given the location of one
hiding place to get you started and spread the field.
Thereafter you are on your own.
All the hiding places will be searcher-friendly i.e. you won't have
to wade through nettles or dig holes, although some may require the
reach of an adult or the crouch of a child.
Much stealth will be required so that you don't advertise your finds
to other competitors.
Individuals start at 11:15; pairs at 11:20; groups at 11:25. Hand in
your answer sheet no later than 12:30 (you'll lose a point for every
minute late!) for totting-up points for prizes.
-
12:30 until lunch is ready
2. Silly Walking Trial:
Follow a short course walking forwards. Stop. Reverse your
course walking backwards. Your forwards time and backwards time will
be recorded and the times must be as close as possible. Competitors
will be ranked in order of time difference.
While you are waiting for your turn laugh at your fellow competitors
or make a start on the lunch-time Grub Quiz ...
-
12:30 to 14:15
3. Grub Quiz: Twenty questions to test your general knowledge
while you nosh. A
twenty-first question as a tie-decider. No smart phone, tablet,
laptop Googling or phoning friends. You are on your own.
-
13:00ish to 14:15
Lunch.
A sumptuous BBQ (with veggy options) while you swap tales about your
morning. Eat as much as you like - you'll be able to burn calories
with an after-lunch walk. Hand in your Grub Quiz answer sheet.
-
14:15 to 15:30
4. Time/Navigation Trial: After lunch
there will be a set walk around Longfield and local footpaths -
total distance of about 2-3 miles. You'll need to
deposit any timepiece you have before you start and predict
exactly how long the walk will take you. There are penalties for
getting back too early or too late. You'll have to record
information on route to prove you've completed
the walk.
-
15:30 to 16:00
5. Toss the Chicken Trial: A big favourite last year. Throw a chicken (not a real one!) and
try to get as close as possible to the target. Closest wins.
-
16:00 to 16:30
Tea break.
Time for a tea break and the 6. Distance Trial. There will two
sticks in the field. Measure/guess the distance between them
to the nearest centimetre – without using any
measuring instrument, or calibrated feet!
-
16:30+
Awards presentation.
There will be
Gold (coloured), Silver (coloured) and Bronze (coloured) medals for first,
second and third on each event.
Points will also be awarded per
event: 1st=25, 2nd=18,
3rd=15, 4th=12, 5th=10, 6th=8, 7th=6, 8th=4, 9th=2, 10th=1 (points
apportioned per person if you compete as a couple/family).
The Overall
Champion will be the individual with the most points.
-
No entry fee but donations will be collected for the
Multiple Sclerosis Society.
