Christmas Quiz

On this year's REALTHIRD Rally, there were three regularities with a single average speed to be maintained of 1) 15 mph, 2) 24 mph and 3) 30 mph.

Linda Dix/Richard Orme (averaging exactly 25 mph throughout the day) and David Burrows/Mike Mustarde (20 mph) tied for first place.

Just 20 seconds behind them (based upon one second penalty per second early or late) behind them were Paul Gray/Mike Simmonds who averaged 18 mph. Paul Crowther/Ray Hernaman came last only managing to average 12 mph and were 14 minutes behind the winners.

What was the length of regularities 1), 2) and 3) and guess or solve why the event was called REALTHIRD (tie-decider)

Solution

1) 6 miles, 2) 3 miles, 3) 4 miles. The winner’s penalty was 11 minutes 30 seconds. Taking the first letters of the event names in the 2006 Clubmans Championship and rearranging them gave the rally name of REALTHIRD.
