Well, the weather was sort of okay. Outer coats and hats were adopted early afternoon to combat the rain, but had we gone on longer than five o'clock everyone would have had a good soaking. Many thanks to you for taking the wetness in your stride and continuing regardless. There were many unusual happenings in the woods this year, but no tales here since I don't want to give away intelligence to those arriving in two weeks. The Barclays and Chris Towers sadly pulled out due to family matters, and John and Sarah Harmer had a sightseeing tour of Essex meeting some very helpful random people before arriving at lunch time. (I realised after the results were announced that rather than being unclassified the Harmers should have just had a big penalty for missing a Pegularity so they are reinstated below). Much to my embarrassment Caroline and Rebecca stormed into a 1-2 placing after three Pegularities with a well thought out strategy. Then Rebecca reduced my blushes with a large miscalculation on Pegularity 4. However, despite pre-event threats of "I can't do it because I'll be rubbish", Caroline stormed to a victory by over four minutes. This will be a tough target for competitors on July 20. If Caroline is crowned World Champion I'll punish her by insisting she runs next year's events. Many thanks to Christine for the catering and the chickens for being tolerant of our strange human behaviour. Thanks also to Sandra/Dave for additional catering and fetching duties, and Roger and Janet Dowgill who donated and supported us from Yorkshire. Biggest thanks to you all for helping us to raise £140.68 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Winners photos are here. I hope to see you next year.
Event Positions
Time penalties in red indicate late, otherwise early. Early penalties incurred on Pegularity 5 if the second half was quicker than the first. Medal Winners 1st Overall - Caroline Crowther |
