The Triangle
All the items designated A1A16, B1B8, C1C4, D1D2 and E1 are locations at Longfield. Visiting locations A1 and A2 will give two halves of a clue to the location of B1. Visiting locations B1 and B2 will give two halves of a clue to the location of C1 ... D1 and D2 will give the location of E1. Each "A" location will also give a full clue to the location of two other "A" locations. You correctly visit a location by writing the halfclue in the box provided. Correctly visiting each "A" location will score 1 point; "B" 2 points; "C" 4 points; "D" 8 points and "E" 16 points. Thus, visiting all locations will score 80 points. At the final location, E1, there will be a full clue to the location of the treasure. First home with the treasure scores a bonus of 20 points. Clues resolve to a location number which is a grid square on a supplied map.
Here's an example of a board at the location of A1. The "8" is the first half of the location number of B1. The "37" gives the full location number of A2 (see table above); and "62" the full location number of A9.
Here's an example of a board at the location of A2. The "7" is the second half of the location number of B1. The "24" gives the full location number of A3 (see table above); and "75" the full location number of A10.
The full location number of B1 is therefore 87. At the start, each of the 16 competitors (8 pairs + 8 individuals) will receive the location number of one of the A clues e.g. A1 = 27, a printed treasure map (see a reduced sample here) and a table of 99 location numbers. Here's an example of the location numbers table:
The boards at each location will have different colours.
Here's an example of a board at location C3. The "8" is the first half of the clue to location D2.
